Water Activities
The Toccoa River is one of the few rivers in the United States that actually flows North. The name Toccoa is derived from the Cherokee “Ta Gura Hi” meaning “Home of the Catawba – a separate tribe who lived in this area briefly in the 1700’s. The Toccoa actually becomes the Ocoee when it enters Tennessee.
The Toccoa flows parallel to Aska Road and forms the center of activities – namely tubing and kayaking the river. It’s cool water makes it very inviting for summer visitors – great family fun floating down the river. The Toccoa is also a wonderful destination for those with fishing on their mind.The Toccoa River is perfect for those who just want to relax and enjoy the gentile flow of the water
